They are the team to beat.

The New Haven Rockets are the Class B defending state champions with the defending Class B Player of the Year.
After a hot start to the season, they seem well on their way to yet another outstanding regular season. The Rockets enter the new year unblemished at 6-0 and also on top of the Times Herald boys basketball poll.

The Rockets already appear to be in mid-season as they have breezed through their schedule. They haven't just won. They've been dominant. New Haven is winning by an average of 30 points per game and will surely be the team to beat in the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division when play resumes Tuesday at Warren Fitzgerald.

The Capac High School boys basketball team is ranked No. 2 entering 2018. The Chiefs are riding one of their hottest starts in years and are a perfect 7-0 on the season. The Chiefs will host Armada on Friday in a Blue Water Area Conference game.

Cardinal Mooney is No. 3 in the Times Herald basketball poll after starting the season 6-1. Senior Daniel Everhart has continued to lead the way, making big shot after big shot. The Cardinals hope to contend for a Catholic League title and will host Frankel Jewish Academy on Thursday.

St. Clair (4-3) is fourth in the Times Herald poll after experiencing mixed results during a difficult stretch in their schedule. They will play a key MAC Gold Division game Tuesday at Port Huron High. Led by senior Ben Davidson, the Saints will be a threat to win every conference game.

Richmond is ranked fifth in the poll entering the new year. Richmond (4-1) got off to a strong start and will look to resume its success in the Blue Water Area Conference when they travel to Croswell-Lexington on Friday.
Port Huron High is sixth in the poll. The Big Reds already have an impressive win over No. 7 ranked Port Huron Northern and will now look to knock off St. Clair on the road.

Speaking of Northern, the Huskies got off to a fast start but have struggled as of late. The Huskies (3-4) will hope to reverse those fortunes on Tuesday night at Fraser.
