CHICAGO – Incoming DePaul freshman Romeo Weems is one of 34 players selected to travel to Colorado Springs in June for training camp for the USA Basketball Men's U19 World Cup Team. The 34 attendees will be trimmed to a 12-player roster for the U19 World Cup in Greece that runs from June 29-July 7.

 
Weems has won two gold medals with USA Basketball in the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup. At the U17 World Cup, he started all seven games and averaged 8.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game to help the USA to a 7-0 record and gold medal in Santa Fe, Argentina. In 2017, Weems averaged 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as the USA posted a 5-0 record and gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Formosa, Argentina.

 
In 12 games with USA Basketball, Weems has averaged 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting .519 (40-77) from the field in 19.7 minutes per game.

 
Weems concluded his prep career by averaging 27.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.2 steals during his senior season at New Haven High School. The Chesterfield, Mich., native was named Michigan's Mr. Basketball and totaled 2,151 career points and a 99-7 record during his four-year high school career.

Joining Weems this summer in DePaul's freshmen class is Chicago native Markese Jacobs and Oscar Lopez from California. The trio is ranked as the No. 25 recruiting class in the nation by ESPN.com. In addition to the nationally-ranked recruiting class newcomers to the roster include transfers Carte'Are Gordon (Saint Louis), Darious Hall (Arkansas) and Charlie Moore (Kansas).

FIRST TEAM

Caleb Bates, Lake Shore
He scored more than 1,000 points as a Shorian.

Ronald Jeffery III, New Haven
The senior helped New Haven win a county-record fifth consecutive regional championship. He averaged 21.7 points per game. Jeffery will play at Henry Ford Community College.


Lee Veasley, Warren Woods-Tower
The senior forward averaged 17 points and five rebounds for the Titans, who won the MAC Gold Division championship.

Richard Washington, Clintondale
The senior guard scored more than 1,200 career points and finished as the Dragons’ all-time scoring leader. He had more games with 30 or more points and led Clintondale in every statistical category, including charges taken.

Romeo Weems, New Haven
The first county player to win the Mr. Basketball award, Weems helped New Haven go undefeated in district and regional tournament games during his four seasons. The Rockets' career scoring leader will play at DePaul.


SECOND TEAM

Charles Anderson, Warren Woods-Tower
The 6-3 senior guard averaged 12 points, five rebounds and five assists per game. His play helped the Titans win the MAC Gold championship.

Ethan Bach, Lutheran North
The All-Catholic player averaged 10 points and seven rebounds. He had a 12-point, 10-rebound game against Richmond and 15 points and six rebounds against New Haven.

Drew Davis, Richmond
A 6-0 combo senior guard, Davis averaged 18 points and four assists plus five rebounds and three steals per game for the Blue Water Area Conference champions.

Codee Harris, South Lake
Harris averaged 17 points and three steals per game.

Jalen Passmore, Lincoln
Passmore was a consistent scoring and rebounding threat for the Abes.

THIRD TEAM

Benjamin Brown, Austin Catholic
The 6-3 senior forward averaged 15.6 points and seven rebounds. He’s going to Brescia University in Kentucky.

JaVaughn Hannah, Mount Clemens
The freshman averaged 20.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. He also had 2.8 steals per contest.

Jashun Houston, Center Line
The senior averaged 17 points per game.

Zach Johnson, Lakeview
The 6-3 senior led the Huskies in scoring and rebounding with averages of 13.5 and 8.5. He played all five positions, and coach John Carr called him the “ultimate team-first guy.”

Jesse Judkins, Eastpointe
Judkins led a revival of Eastpointe basketball, helping the Shamrocks win 14 games after winning only two the season before. Eastpointe's all-time scoring leader will play at Oakland Community College.

FOURTH TEAM

Josh Bogan, South Lake
He averaged a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. Bogan was the quarterback of the football team. “Excellent player, better teammate,” basketball coach Kurt Wilson said.

Jameire Cannon, Michigan Collegiate
In addition to being a basketball standout, Cannon played wide receiver and defensive back for the football team.

Colton Haberek, Fitzgerald
A multi-sport standout, Haberek was the Spartans' quarterback last fall.

Daveyon Henderson, Richmond
A 6-5 junior, Henderson averaged 14 points and eight rebounds. He helped Richmond repeat as the BWAC champion and compile a 21-2 overall record.

Darrell Walker, Clintondale
The junior point guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He scored a season high of 27 points.

Brent Wiles, New Haven
The sophomore forward averaged 8.5 points and seven rebounds and helped the Rockets win the MAC White Division championship.

Men’s Basketball Announces 2018-19 Team Award Winners

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Lake Superior State men's basketball team has announced the recipients of it team awards for 2018-19.

Junior guard Malek Adams was named the Lakers' Most Valuable Player. Adams, a native of Grand Ledge, Michigan who is majoring in sport and recreation management, earned All-GLIAC First Team honors for the first time in his career after averaging a team-best 16.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot 49.0% from the field, including 40.9% on three-pointers, and 80.2% from the free throw line. Adams scored in double figures in 19 of his 25 games played on the season, including 10 games with at least 20 points. He scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double in a game at Ferris State on Jan. 26 in Big Rapids, Michigan. He also tallied 21 points in the Lakers' 77-66 win over then-No. 15 Ashland on Feb. 9 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. He was named a GLIAC North Division Player of the Week once in 2018-19.

Senior guard Tim Cairnduff earned the Bud Cooper Coaches Award. Cairnduff, a native of Morley, Michigan who graduated with a degree in criminal justice – law enforcement, averaged a career-best 10.8 points on 48.3% shooting from the field, including 39.2% on three-point shots. He also recorded career bests in assists per game (3.3), rebounds per game (3.5), steals per game (1.0) and minutes per game (31.2). Cairnduff scored in doubles figures in 16 games on the season.

Freshman guard C.J. Robinson was named the Best Newcomer. A native of Clarkston, Michigan, started 27 games and tallied 5.9 points per game. He averaged 31.7 minutes per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range. He also tallied 2.0 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. 

The Most Improved Player was redshirt sophomore center Jackson Schrameyer. After playing in 24 games (no starts) with 5.8 minutes per game, 2.4 points per game, while grabbing 0.8 rebounds per game as a redshirt freshman in 2017-18, Schrameyer improved each of those marks in 2018-19. He set career-highs in games played (26), games started (20), minutes per game (13.2) and rebounds per game (2.4). 

Freshman Ashton Sherrell, a forward from Detroit, Michigan who is majoring in Kinesiology,was the recipient of the Tom Thornton Award — presented to the student-athlete who persevered, never gave up and was a great teammate. Sherrell played in 12 games and averaged 3.1 points per game in 2018-19.
