Burney’s Mr. Basketball Race Power Index:
  • 1 Romeo Weems (New Haven 6-foot-7 F) — The clear frontrunner, the most dominant player in the state by far.
  • 2 Daniel Friday (U-D Jesuit 6-foot-4 G) — The most complete player in Metro Detroit, maybe the highest hoop IQ, too.
  • 3 Dylan Jergens (Howardsville Christian 6-foot-1 G) — Averaging a robust 40 points per game, will probably end his prep career as the state’s all-time leading scorer.
  • 4 Joe Moon (Westland John Glenn 6-foot-0 G) — From out of nowhere in the offseason into the thick of the Mr. Basketball race down the stretch this winter.
  • 5 Chandler Turner (Detroit Renaissance 6-foot-6.5 F) — The best overall player in The D, a workhorse on the wing. [Pictured, at right.]
  • 6 Caleb Hodgson (Dansville 6-foot-10 C) — The No. 1 post player in the senior class, great footwork and motor.
  • 7 SirQuarius Ball (Bridgeport 6-foot-5 F) — As electrifying and tenacious as they come, headed to Grand Valley State to play football.
  • 8 B Artis White (Canton 6-foot-0 G) — Juggernaut of a jitterbug in the backcourt, has the proverbial eye of the tiger at the point running an offense.
  • 9 Drew Lowder (Ann Arbor Pioneer 6-foot-1 G) — The top pure point guard in the senior class, a crafty floor general with a phenomenal feel for the game.
  • 10 Ryan Wade (Ann Arbor Skyline 6-foot-4 G) — Nasty net-ripper off the ball, soft touch from the perimeter, attacks the rim with authority.
Sleeper picks:
  • Caleb Bates (St. Clair Shores Lakeshore 6-foot-7 F) — A St. Clair Shores scoring machine.
  • John Ukomadu (Roseville 6-foot-6 F) — Maybe the MVP of the MAC, just saying.
  • Isaiah Lewis (Wayne Memorial 6-foot-0 G) — Sir-Grind-A-Lot of a floor general equally devastating distributing or scoring the rock.
  • Zach Goodline (Coloma 6-foot-0 G) — 2,000 points don’t lie.
