Romeo, wherefore art thou going to college?
Romeo Weems tried to quell recruiting rumors during a weekend trip to the NCAA Final Four.
The New Haven junior, who has offers from several major-college programs, including Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan State and Michigan, said on Twitter he hasn’t decided which one he’ll pick.
“I’m not committed to any college right now,” Weems tweeted Sunday.
Weems was in San Antonio as part of the all-junior USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Select Team that participated in exhibition play against teams organized by the NBA.
A tweet Sunday included an edited picture that showed Weems in a Michigan State jersey and said, “(Romeo Weems) is the future! Make it happen! #GoGreen.”
Weems replied to the tweet, saying, “Man I’m not committed there.”
“I’m going through my recruitment process and looking for what (I) think is best for me and my future,” Weems tweeted. “I’m not looking to commit anytime soon so please stop with all the rumors.”
The 6-foot-7 Weems helped New Haven win regional championships each of his first three seasons. The Rockets won the 2017 state Class B championship and advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 tournament.
Weems averaged 23.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in 2017-18.
He has 1,497 career points. The New Haven record is 1,840.
Iowa, Rutgers and Virginia Commonwealth are among other schools that have offered scholarships to Weems.
